Mid-April Blogging
Taking a break from work to get some thoughts down.
Been a hectic two weeks. Spent a lot of time with Paolo which is always personally and professionally enriching and fun. We made some interesting connections, refined business models and made strides here in the US. Not as much as we would have liked, but that the nature of the beast, or perhaps it the nature of our (my?) personality?
Publishers of all stripes, old media, new media, and every hybrid in-between are looking for new sleek, economical and user-friendly solutions. Have you seen Evectors newest site Il Secocol IX? It’s the wave of the future and there’smore come.
Enjoyed some yummy restaurants over the past couple of weeks,
- Perilla -great if you’re downtown between sit-downs and you need a quick bite.
- Good Luck Dim Sum - I really like this place, excellent dim sum for a pittance. They’ve spruced up the place and the line was particularly scary, but when the company is good, who cares. I know that some people swear by Yang Sing, but really - isn’t it a tad overpriceD. And it really can’t compare to HK. I’ve had outstanding dim sum in Xian (and the dim sum was in fun shapes) and at the Sofitel in Hanoi
- I enjoy walking down to the Mission for a burrito, but I wasn’t particularly pleased with my usual place on my last visit. The chips weren’t fresh (for the second time in a row) and I was completely repulsed by the dog next to me … indoors. So I’m on the hunt for greener pastures.
- Osha Thai – I usually go to the one in Soma (after a Soma “happening”), but this time I ventured to one on Geary. Completely different atmosphere. No candles!! I could actually see the food. I still have a hard time paying for Thai food in the US after spending so much time in Thailand, but the food was quite good.
- Visited Mama’s for the first time. The food was excellent, I had pancakes with fruit, but SF suffers the same problem as NY. Every decent brunch place has a line that seemingly stretches to infinity on the weekends. Ugh.
- Do try the creamy rolls at Sushi Rapture. D-e-l-i-c-i-o-u-s, like everything else on the menu.
That’s enough about food, I don’t want people to get the impression that all I do is eat. But I do have a great recipie of pasta with bread crumbs, olive oil, anchovies, tuna and garlic. And there’s that Chinese place in Albany, CA not the home of “David Patterson.”
When I’m not eating, I do try and follow what’s going on in the world
- Lots/some/a bit of interest in the twitter/facebook/friendfeed. I’ll leave it to wiser minds than mine to weigh substantively on the issue, but I do have a few thoughts. To me, it’s all about the quality of the filter mechanism, so that I can see what I want, when I want with a minimum of pain. Then again, maybe I need to filter my personal relationships better so that my online relationships would need such a filtering mechanism..
- Lots of sad events in Bangkok and Madagascar, makes me sad for my friends that are there.
- Speaking of David Patterson, can you say “not ready for prime-time player” even by standards of New York state politics.
- Then again, I live in California. Can I really make fun of politics anywhere.
